Graduated from Valdez High School in 1969 (Student Body President, Varsity Basketball Team)

B.S. degree (1973) in Business Administration from Lewis and Clark College, Portland
J.D. (1983) University of Puget Sound School of Law (now Seattle University); admitted to the Alaska Bar Association in 1983. Also admitted to practice before the 9th Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Global Health Outreach Medical Mission to prisons in Guyana in conjunction with Christian Medical and Dental Association and Prison Fellowship International (logistics volunteer) – January 2007, especially enjoyed working with prisoners on death row
